Your piece about support staff (“Support staff get pay talks, TES, December 2) mentions teaching assistants, administrative staff and caretakers.

Has your reporter not heard of laboratory technicians? If so, he is not alone. Even my local education authority’s website ignores us on their support staff page. Rarely do I see technicians mentioned whenever support staff are discussed. Why not? Are they not equally valuable? Try running a science department without them.
