THE Association of Teachers and Lecturers has appointed a former head of geography and professional development expert as its new president. Julie Grant, on secondment from the Howard School in Gillingham, Kent, took up the role last Saturday. She has been involved with the ATL nationally since 1986, was its honorary treasurer and has overseen the professional development of more than 150 staff at her school. Morale, consultation and willingness to negotiate will be her key issues.
