Formulaic teaching was our intended foe

As a young person new to the profession via a training programme for exceptional graduates, I am already coming to the same conclusion (as the heads who fear classroom teaching is becoming “formulaic”).

We were told by certain tutors not to be so obsessed with assessment and that education is about so much more than that. Now in an unnamed academy, I feel that I am constrained in my ability to deliver what is best for students’ development but have to focus on prescriptive schemes of work that may not provide them with the skills they actually need in life.
