ST CATHERINE’S College, Oxford, is celebrating its 40th anniversary with a photographic exhibition of a behind-the-scenes look at college life over the course of a year. Fred Jarvis, former general secretary of the National Union of Teachers, TUC president, and alumnus of St Catherine’s, photographed the arrival of the freshers in Michaelmas term 2001 and finished his assignment with the arrival of the 2002 intake.

This is the third of his “behind the scenes” exhibitions. His last looked at West Ham United Football Club and his first chronicled Labour’s election victory in 1997, with the only pictures taken inside Millbank, the party’s headquarters.

The 400 pictures are on show from 2 to 5pm on weekdays until December 13.
