Are those hounds in Aberdeen smart, or what? The city council is mightily concerned about what it calls “fouling” in school playgrounds - this does not involve breaktime footie - and wants warning signs to dissuade the errant public and their mutts.

The penalties - not the footie kind - will be harsh. But guide and hearing dogs will be exempt. Phew!

Officials are at least realistic in their “tail” of woe. “It is impossible to guarantee that stray dogs will not enter the school premises and present risks to children,” they helpfully point out.

But will the signs be in Alsatian or Afghan? Or simply used for general relief?
