HALF of the 7,300 primary schools in the Netherlands will soon operate a four-day week following a ruling by an Amsterdam court last week, according to the association representing Dutch primary schools, writes Abi Daruvalla. The move is a response to an acute national shortage of teachers and will cut the number of teaching hours for pupils, which are the highest in Europe.
