The point F Farrell raises on moral and spiritual choices (TES letters, July 19) was dealt with by Professor Flew and myself in our pamphlet. We emphasised that individuals have free will and can, and sometimes do, reject the standards their teachers set. This must not, however, be confused with a pedagogy, like values clarification, which seeks from the start to avoid setting moral standards for fear of interfering with a child’s autonomy.
