How about a relaxing break in the mountainous Cevennes region of France at the end of term? Julie Tortajada, a French teacher at a middle school on the Isle of Wight, is offering her spacious two double-bedroom house, set in five acres of woodland and garden, for rent. The nearest village, Saint Martial, is 10 minutes’ walk away and a haven for artists.
“It is quiet and peaceful, surrounded by woods, with a river and small waterfall near the house,” says Julie. “My parents live close by and, apart from that, there are a few chickens roaming freely and no other neighbours in sight.” There’s canoeing, abseiling and mountain-biking on offer close by and Montpellier, with its airport, shopping and Mediterranean beaches is just an hour’s drive away.
