Fresh calls for Woodhead to resign;In brief

CHIEF inspector Chris Woodhead this week faced demands for his resignation after fresh allegations that he had an affair with a pupil while a teacher in the 1970s. Labour MP Alice Mahon has tabled a motion at the Commons alleging he had “not told the truth” about his relationship with Amanda Johnston and was “unfit” to head the Office for Standards in Education. The call follows publication in the Bristol Evening Post of new allegations by six former colleagues at the Gordano school near Bristol who say his behaviour was inappropriate. Mr Woodhead was not available for comment, but an OFSTED spokesman insisted that the chief inspector had always denied the claims.
