Sally Fielden teaches biology part-time at Bury grammar school for girls, a 1,064-pupil independent school Head of Year 7 Claire Trethewey says Sally, who has been at Bury since 1994, deserves our flowers, chocolate and champagne for her work as the school’s charities co-ordinator. Each form is given a charity, and each raises money in different ways. Some have cake sales, others run three-legged pancake races and sponsored swims, “but always with the same enthusiasm and energy”, says Claire. Sometimes the whole school will get behind one charity - a non-uniorm day earlier this month raised pound;600 for Comic Relief, and two weeks of selling toast, samosas and pancakes at lunch break times raised pound;800 for the Gujarat earthquake appeal. Last year the school gave pound;6,000 to various charities, “a total Sally is determined to beat this year”, says Claire.
