Ivan Wildman, “full-time parent and husband”, helps out at Watchfield primary school near Swindon

Ivan Wildman has been married to army officer Helen for 15 years. During that time the family, including Rebecca, 12, and Jessica, nine, has moved 11 times. In each place, Mr Wildman has spent his spare time working in schools. The family is currently based in Shrivenham, Wiltshire, where he helps out at Watchfield with everything from technology lessons to putting up benches. He also set up the school cycling train, “driving” up to 30 children to and from school.

He is nominatd by army chaplain Padre David Coulter, who says Mr Wildman runs cycling proficiency and sports sessions in the holidays - and is a childminder in what little time he has left. “He thoroughly deserves to be a Friday hero,” says Padre Coulter, “although he is unlikely to have time to enjoy the champagne and chocolates.”
