Julie Pomfret is the nursery nurse, classroom assistant and lunchtime supervisor at Thurnham Glasson CE primary school near Lancaster Thurnham Glasson is the smallest school in Lancashire, with just 18 pupils aged four to 11, and Julie Pomfret, this week’s recipient of our flowers, champagne and chocolates, is a much treasured all-round helper. The school’s recently appointed head, Claire Gillham, says that Mrs Pomfret epitomises all that is good about the values and benefits of a small school. She is “caring, committed, imaginative, and full of fun”. This is a ural school on the coast and children are encouraged to play together. Popular with her pupils, Julie Pomfret has lots of ideas for playground games. “It is a joy to see her organising and joining in skipping games with our five infants and to see them all laughing and giggling,” says Mrs Gillham.
