Janet Brown is associate deputy head at the Heath school in Runcorn, Cheshire Janet Brown has spent her entire career at the Heath, where for 30 years she has taught religious studies to hundreds of children and their parents.

According to Year 7 head Margaret Cassin, who nominated her for this week’s flowers, chocolates and champagne, Janet is “the heart” of the school, enthusing pupils through her lessons and running an incredible number of extra-curricular activities. She has boundless energy as well as a big hart and reminds people of the Pied Piper - “she sings (literally) and they follow”.

Janet has just been chosen from 11,000 applicants for the Global Teachers Award on a placement in Africa this summer, where, no doubt, she will give her all.
