Ernie Moir is the janitor of Strathburn primary school in Inverurie near Aberdeen which was destroyed by fire in February Mr Moir witnessed the blaze that destroyed the premises of this 450-pupil school. According to the staff who have nominated him for our flowers, champagne and chocolates, he has always had a heart of gold - “nothing is too much trouble” - and throughout their crisis he has proved to be a tower of strength. As well as being janitor to another primary school, he is currently running between four temporary sites for Strathburn, and his yellow van is always a welcome sight. A hard-working and caring man, he has become “the moving heart” of Strathburn, keeping everyone in touch.

“We just want to show how much he means to us,” says teacher Kay McIntosh.
