Dei Rowlands has spent her entire career as a school nurse serving three primary schools and one secondary on the Leasowe estate in the Wirral, Cheshire Mrs Rowlands retires at the end of this term after 32 years. She is the much-loved school nurse who knows parents and grandparents of many of the pupils in her care. Staff at Leasowe primary have nominated her for our flowers, champagne and chocolates, saying she is one of life’s enthusiasts who makes everyone feel special and “part of her family”.

Deputy head Pat Woods writes that Dei has unique knowledge of the estate and endless ways of helping the residents, who are affected by unemployment, poverty and crime. As well as medical expertise she supplies household items, food, bedding and clothes for needy families. Ms Woods says: “She is irreplaceable and will leave an enormous void.”
