Alison Tarry is an English teacher at King Edward VI school in Morpeth, Northumberland Nominated by an NQT, Alison is said to make a big difference to this large and successful 13-18 school. “She always has time for people and has the gift of truly listening,” writes Elaine Heaver, an NQT in the English department who says she feels very lucky to have such a brilliant role model and mentor for her induction.

Headteacher Jane Mann confirms that Alison is a hard-working and enthusiastic teacher, running a weekly Lit Cafe after school for pupils to discuss books - “all very civilised” - and often taking trips to the theatre. “It’s true, Alison has an excellent personal touch with fellow teachers as well as with pupils.”

Ms Mann describes the school as “a really buzzy, lively place”, adding that Elaine Heaver is herself developing into a gifted teacher. “Her affinity with children of all abilities is very striking - we’re lucky to have so many excellent teachers.”
