It is hard to reconcile Geraint Jones’ “personal views” of so-called inefficiency in state schools with reality (“State sector’s inefficient culture makes me sick”, 19 October).

In small rural schools, one or two pupils leaving or joining can make a big difference to the staff. They work incredibly hard, and to suggest that they are inefficient for handing over the counting of dinner money to an admin assistant makes no sense.

In my school, teachers and assistants are paid to give children the best education possible. I fail to see how taking them away from that to make them count dinner money or supervise in the playground is a good use of their time.
