THE Scottish Office is preparing to spend Pounds 26 million over the next three years to transform 64 schools into “full-service” schools, two for each education authority.
The ambitious pilot programme is intended to bring all services affecting children under one roof and goes well beyond the modest initiative unveiled by the Secretary of State in May when Donald Dewar announced that “new deal schools” would play a central role in the Government’s agenda of tackling social exclusion and educational underachievement.
At that time he promised only two or three pilots, one of which would be in Glasgow.
