SCHOOL PUPILS will be encouraged to do more cooking in a bid to help tackle the child obesity problem.

The European Commission has joined with Eurotoques International, the European chefs’ association, to launch a website including healthy recipe tips from top chefs. It is also promoting European Day for Healthy Food and Cooking on November 8.

Markos Kyprianou, the EU health commissioner, said: “Obesity is on the rise, especially among children. Each year over 400,000 more children become overweight or obese in the EU. We want children to understand the importance of eating and cooking in a healthy way.”
