Further to your article “Sector looks to its own experts to raise quality and save on private consultants”, FE Focus, June 26), we are writing to set the record straight.

We would like to clarify that the Learning and Skills Improvement Service continues its most valued support of UK Skills, both the concept of vocational skills competitions and hosting WorldSkills London 2011, since skills competitions not only develop young people, but also trainers and teachers in their own right.

WorldSkills is a key tool in promoting skills, enhancing business performance in each sector of the economy and showcasing the opportunities that the vocational career route can offer in the 21st century.
