Raymond Robertson tried to hold a press conference on education last week but was, not surprisingly, hijacked by some penetrating questions on Europe from the caravan of political correspondents on the election campaign trail.
The Education Minister was, however, able to put clear blue water between himself and what Tory bigwig David MacLetchie called the “talented men” of Labour who attended independent or fee-paying schools. Robertson proudly revealed his past as a state-educated pupil at Garrion Academy in Wishaw. Would he have benefited even more from an assisted place, we wondered?
