AS part of the education programme in the forthcoming 11-month Japan 2001 festival, the Geidai Symphony Orchestra will give concerts in collaboration with the Royal Academy of Music, with outreach projects in schools.

Other events include touring performances of Noh and Kabuki theatre, and the Sapporo Symphony Orchestra, an exhibition of Shinto art t the British Museum, and an exhibition of youth culture at the Barbican Centre in London. The event opens on May 19 with a matsuri (festival) in Hyde Park.
