A touring programme of events delivered through the Edinburgh International Science Festival’s education programme hopes to enthuse new young scientists.

Generation Science’s 17 shows and workshops, aimed at primary schools and sponsored by ScottishPower, tours Scotland until March 23; the summer tour will run from April 23-May 31. Last year, the tour reached 62,000 pupils and 2,000 teachers across all of Scotland. The shows will focus on topics including materials, recycling and where energy comes from.

Simon Gage, director, said: “A passion for science starts in the classroom and we believe it’s possible to make the teaching of the subject extraordinary and absorbing.”

This year’s annual Edinburgh International Science Festival, pitched at all levels and ages, will run from April 2-15 .
