YOUNG people born in the 1970s, the so-called “Generation X”, are better educated but more prone to depression than their counterparts raised in the 1960s, according to research by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation. Those born in the 1970s earn more on average than the 1960s generation but the jobs and income gap had widened between those with good qualifications and those with none, it found.
