The Young Geographer of the Year competition , which is sponsored by the Geographical magazine, the Royal Geographical Society and The TES attracted around 1,000 essays on the topic “Is the UK over-populated”.

The winners were James Cohen, from the Judd school in Tonbridge, Kent; Emma Lewis, from the Thomas Hardye school, Dorchester, and Miles Smith, from Endon high school, Staffordshire, A full report of the competition will appear in the Geography Focus in Teacher magazine on June 17 .

The winning entries will be published on the TES website (www.tes.co.uk).
