George Bush fails headship test

YOU ask whether George Bush would make a good head (TES, July 11). When he got the job of head of US high, people were surprised because he didn’t have the right qualifications - but it turned out his brother was a governor and the interview was rigged.

He appointed his mates as senior managers and they were soon running the show. Some even awarded school contracts to their friends.

Then he got into difficulties by picking arguments with the inspectors and trying to take over other schools. Some pupils have been in detention for more than a year and now face capital punishment.

Some parents think these tactics are designed to distract attention from his lack of integrity. They are realising that machismo isn’t always a good leadership quality.
