JOHN Warner of the Department of Child Health at Southampton University, whose research shows that asthma is on the increase because babies are deprived of bacteria in clean hospitals and homes,plans to start clinical trials by introducing germs to newborn babies within two years. He aims to cut the asthma rate from the current 20 per cent to the 5 per cent of 20 years ago.
