Get in the active zone

The TES Get Active Zone, on stands C5 and C6, will have healthy eating and cookery demonstrations plus a free series of workshops on both days of the exhibition, as part of The TES Get Active campaign which launched last week.

Also available at the zone will be information sheets and ideas about how to encourage healthy initiatives at school.

And as May 14 is the World Cancer Research Fund’s Fruity Friday (see www.fruityfriday.org), the WCRF will be giving out free resources and information from the zone about how eating fruit and vegetables can help prevent cancer.

The two free 45-minute workshops will be provided by Brilliant Futures and Steps Professional Development. Brilliant Futures, a not-for-profit children’s health promotion organisation, will highlight ways to introduce fun, motivating approaches to healthy living (www.brilliantfutures.org).

The workshop is aimed at primary schools and all participants will receive free resources to help run a school healthy living challenge.

Steps Professional Development (www.steps-pd.co.uk) will be presenting a workshop on fundamental movement skills. These basic skills are an introduction to the more complex skills required for sports, dance, playground games and general physical activity. This workshop is aimed at the general practitioner working with children aged three to eight.

The TESGet Active campaign aims to raise awareness of health issues such as obesity, poor diet and lack of exercise in schools - among students and staff. www.tes.co.ukgetactive
