In Axarquia, for example, the rural area east of Malaga, any number from four to 24 can book into La Finca del Nino, a small collection of villas about a mile from the sea. The shops and cafes of Benajarafe are five minutes' drive away, the gently shelving beaches boast "chiringuitos", seaside restaurants where you can eat freshly fried sardines while your toes wiggle in the sand, and there is scope for long walks in the hills nearby. Sharing a pool and a toddlers' pool, barbecues and a tennis court, four can rent a two-bedroom villa in this little resort set in 10 acres of almond, olive and mango trees, for pound;535 for a week, while two weeks cost pound;665. Car hire and flights to and from Malaga, about 30 miles away, can be arranged at extra cost. Details: 01373 814222; www.spainatheart.co.uk.
