The article on councils “failing” to tackle racism (TES, February 20), stated that Newham was judged unsatisfactory in tackling racism. This is not the case.
In its 2003 inspection report, Newham was judged as satisfactory. The Office for Standards in Education recommended that we should “disseminate regularly to schools a more detailed analysis of racist incidents and schools’ responses to them”.
We are working with schools and their governing bodies to effect this recommendation.
