According to the front page headline in last week’s TES Scotland, maths teachers are “firing distress flares”.
To continue the nautical metaphor, may I suggest that one of the major causes of this is the collision with the job-sizing iceberg and the concurrent mismanaged rearrangement of the ship’s lifeboat allocation?
However, the metaphor can only be sustained so far. After all, no one predicted the fate of the Titanic in advance. The same cannot be said of management re-structuring in secondary schools.
