Give the council more credit

I was surprised when reading your front-page article which makes reference to the General Teaching Council.

For more than a year I worked on the GTC teacher recruitment and retention forum in a voluntary capacity. During this time I witnessed a great deal of work being done by the GTC to promote the issues surrounding this vitally important subject. This culminated in a national conference held in London which was supported by educationists, education authorities, trade unions and the Department for Education and Skills.

I believe that the GTC has helped to re-shape the agenda surrounding the retention of teachers and has clearly influenced government thinking in this area.

It would be good to see The TES reporting all the many positive things that the GTC has achieved.
