In “Sport can bring out the bullies” (TESpro, 12 October), Ian Rivers commented on issues concerning school sport. I am concerned at how the government is trying to turn people off sport. At school I loathed competitive sports but enjoyed the useful skills found in non-competitive jogging and javelin. My recommendation: introduce pupils to a wide range of sports so that they can find their own interests. Do not force competitive sports and turn them off. Sport is for physical and mental development; competition is an extra - and to me an irrelevant one.
