Your editorial was correct to focus on the social bias towards academic education in this country (“Diplomas, doom and a little laugh in Dusseldorf,” August 6). It’s time to rethink the image of vocational and apprenticeship courses. During these difficult times many students might find it attractive to work and train at the same time rather than end up with a lengthy debt-ridden job hunt. Business leaders value this approach, the Government is waking up to apprenticeships - now it’s time for students and their parents to think again about what’s really best for their future.
