PUNTERS in Glasgow can be assured their political masters will run a rule over the pound;1.2 billion contract awarded to the 3 Ed consortium for renovating 29 schools.

Education convener Bob Gray, as a former clerk of works in the old Glasgow Corporation, is more than qualified to spot less than satisfactory craftsmanship.

Gray, a skilled joiner in his youth, went on to become a senior lecturer in construction services at Cardonald College and was once spied clambering over school roofs to assess damage.
