With a Gaelic Language Bill just announced and the Great Book of Gaelic arriving in Edinburgh, it’s time to celebrate

Drawing activities for all the family inspired by the Great Book exhibition will run at the City Art Centre tomorrow and on Monday, 10am-4pm.

Grandmother of eight Dolina Wallace has a treasure trove of stories from the Highlands and Western Isles to share in celebration of the Great Book of Gaelic exhibition. Free 45-minute storytelling sessions for five-year-olds upwards will be held at the City Art Centre from October

Storyteller Senga Munro and artist Kate Leiper are giving children aged seven to 11 a chance to hear a story and bring it to life through art activities at the Scottish Storytelling Centre in Edinburgh on November 1, tel 0131 557 5724556 9579.

Donald Murray of Aberdeen, who is one of the calligraphers involved in the Great Book of Gaelic project, will explain and demonstrate calligraphy techniques at a workshop for adults on November 8. To book a place (pound;7) tel 0131 529 39623.

Daily two-hour workshops will be run by drama specialist

Frances Baker for a month from November 10 at the City Art Centre to encourage P4s-P7s to look in detail at the verse and art in the Great Book exhibition. They will discuss issues that arise from it, do some drama and hopefully produce their own poetry and artwork. For details tel 0131 529 3915.
