The central Scotland club was awarded pound;40,000 by SportScotland to develop the facilities. It now has three junior holes, covered driving bays, indoor practice nets and video swing analysis, and primary pupils are already taking advantage of them.
Eighty-seven children from seven local schools were introduced to the game through clubgolf, the national programme to give every 9-year-old a chance to try their hand, and about three-quarters decided they wanted to take up a level one course. Now four golf clubs in the area (Aberfoyle, Killin, St Fillans and Callander) have recruited volunteer coaches to help develop their interest.
“We have found no difficulty in attracting club members to undertake clubgolf’s two-day volunteer coaching course,” said John Morrison, captain of Callander’s men’s team. “We already have 13 trained coaches and we will certainly need more for next year.”
