Farewell to a number of dear friends, beneficiaries of the Conservative dynasty. Biggest casualty is Raymond Robertson, former education minister and secondary teacher, who lost Aberdeen South to Anne Begg, Arbroath English teacher and union activist. Robertson is about to discover how difficult it is for teachers to find a job.
Rumours suggest, however, that he is among those pushing for a complete restructuring of the Tory party in Scotland and the appointment of a chief executive. There is a precedent. When John Mackay, another former education minister, was turfed out in the 1987 election he became party chief executive before Michael Forsyth axed the job when party chairman. With Forsyth out of the way, is there again a job for a former minister?
