A record 69 per cent of state schools in England are now judged good or outstanding, according to the annual report from the Ofsted inspectorate, and there has been a big rise in the proportion of good and outstanding teaching - with just 2 per cent judged inadequate. The number of schools in categories of concern has come down from 471 to 360. But chief inspector Christine Gilbert said there was “a stubborn core of inadequate teaching and teaching that is only satisfactory.”
