It is not a question of whether or not five-year-olds are “too young to follow the national curriculum” but whether the national curriculum is worthwhile for reception children to follow.
Five-year-olds are entitled to a curriculum that meets their current needs, not one which merely offers a “taster” of what is to come. If the educational diet is inappropriate at this age then intellectual growth may be stunted for life.
