Gove presses the right buttons on ICT

It is not common for me to agree with decisions made by “the Gove”, but with regard to ICT in the curriculum he might be on the money. Our students need to work in new ways, but this is not the domain of an ICT-focused course. ICT should be a component of all teaching - that is where it belongs. Making it a stand-alone offering allows it to be seen as a bolt-on.

Teachers who embrace integration have infinitely more engaging classrooms. I have the experience, as evaluator of Queensland’s Laptop for Teachers programme, to support my comments.

While ICT continues to be seen as something separate, it will not become “integral to learning”. You might just win this one, Mr Gove.
