* The Government has accepted the proposals for changes to the management of initial teacher education, produced by a working group in January.

These are intended to ensure that there is no “evaluation overload” in the scrutiny of teacher training, which should be subject instead to “collaborative review”.

The announcement also confirmed that the Scottish Higher Education Funding Council will in future largely determine annual intakes to teacher education courses.
