It follows the departure of Glenys Stacey, who led the regulator for five years until stepping down at the end of last month.

Ofqual chair Amanda Spielman has been acting as interim chief regulator during the search for Ms Stacey’s successor. Jeremy Benson, executive director of vocational qualifications, has now assumed the role of accounting officer.

Following the evidence session, the Committee will publish a report of its opinion on the candidate’s suitability for the role.
