The Government’s standards drive could be threatened by its pay reforms as literacy and numeracy advisers see salaries fall behind teachers’, the NUT has warned David Blunkett.

Local authority advisers and inspectors are empoyed on a pay scale higher than the classroom teachers’ scale. NUT general secretary Doug McAvoy said there would be little incentive for excellent teachers to become advisers if they could earn more in the classroom.
