So, Sarah McCarthy-Fry loved school and she thinks that makes her a creep! (“Pompey girl who rose to office against the odds”, April 17) Is there any hope for teachers while an education minister holds this view?

Isn’t it everyone’s dream to be happy at school and fitted with sufficient skills to climb to a substantial job, such as the one she was elected to do? She went on to diss Portsmouth High School for being single sex, academically focused and “old-fashioned”.

Ms McCarthy-Fry has either entered the competition for who can pull up the drawbridge after them the fastest or, judging by the article’s headline, who can make their childhood appear the least fortunate.

Sarah Hackett, Peripatetic instrumental teacher.
