ITALY: Six grandmothers and a grandfather in Carrara are attempting to save a Tuscan school by enrolling as pupils. None of the six ever obtained the licenza elementare (primary-level certificate) and their enrolment should save the school which is threatened by falling rolls. The pensioners, some of whom are illiterate, are looking forward to the experience. “If the Lord is willing, I hope to get my licenza,” said 88-year-old Gemma Stefani.
