The National Library of Scotland hosted a series of Great Book Debate workshops in the lead-up to World Book Day yesterday. Pupils from four Edinburgh primary schools - Carrick Knowe, Abbeyhill, Prestonfield and Preston Street - took part in workshops with curators, education officers and the library’s writer in residence introducing their favourite childhood books and arguing why they should feature in the schools’ library collections. Pupils from each school were asked to vote for one of the 10 nominated books, with the winning book going to their school or class library. The 10 books were The Little Prince, Fungus the Bogeyman, The Eagle of the Ninth, The Dark is Rising, Five Children and It, The Worst Witch, The Wizard of Earthsea, Every Boy’s Handbook, Anne of Green Gables and Sneetches and Other Stories.
