The Great A-level Debate

“I teach three creative arts subjects at A level and I’m very happy with the structure of them. However, students don’t seem to realise the ASA2 split is 5050 until pretty late on in the course, so there would be no harm in changing the weighting to 4060, which is more what they expect.

“There would be no reason to change the exam schedule along with this, although this was suggested recently as a possibility in TES. Currently sixth-formers work on the AS from September to AprilMay and then can move on to the A2 as soon as their AS course is over. We already do this, and I assume it’s widespread, so our students work on their A2 from May or June to the following May. That gives eight to nine months for AS, and a year on A2.”
