Young people in Aberdeen are being invited to think up enterprising ideas and bid for funds.

The city council has set up a challenge fund worth pound;300,000 over the next two years with the money allocated by the Scottish Executive through its Determined to Succeed initiative.

John Cowie, development officer for enterprise, said: “We are devolving some of the decisions to schools themselves and hope they will be more creative and enterprising in their ideas.” Each primary, secondary and special school may receive up to pound;2,000, and more for exceptional projects.

The city is keen to encourage environmental and community projects.

Suggestions include a primary 6 class organising a science day for P1s; helping to set up buddying, mentoring and anti-bullying groups; Duke of Edinburgh Award or Princes Trust schemes; eco-friendly schemes or health promotion work.
