Fancy soaking up the sun and learning the basics of the Greek language and cooking this summer? Sallyann Phillips, who teaches art and English at a pupil referral unit in West Sussex, has set up a website so you can do just that.

She has been visiting the peaceful village of Kefalos on the Greek island of Kos for the past 12 years. Over the years, she has become good friends with George and Efrosini Sakatis, who own a taverna and self-catering accommodation a short walk from the beach. The couple will show you how to cook the local delicacies and a tutor from the village will teach Greek.

“It’s a great way to get to know the village and the locals, who are warm and hospitable people,” says Sallyann.
